FAQS: ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS
CAN I USE MY OWN MATTRESS?
Yes, you can use any coil-spring mattress up to 10″ thick. Foam mattresses, like Tempurpedic and all Latex are not suitable and can void your warranty. A mattress with a maximum weight of 60 pounds.
CAN I TAKE MY MURPHY BED WITH ME WHEN I MOVE?
Yes, because it attaches only to the wall. Our system does not use floor mounting – which can seriously damage your floor. No problem in rental accommodations, either. We use Provincial Moving and storage for moving of Murphy Systems as they have trained staff. A Murphy Bed can be dangerous to disassemble if the proper procedures aren’t followed.
CAN I PUT MY MURPHY BED INTO A CLOSET?
You can, but you don’t have to. Murphy Beds have evolved a lot since the old days of the clunky iron mechanism that bolted to the floor and hid behind bi-fold doors. Our Murphy Beds are only 16″ deep and attach to the wall not the floor. You may have several location options in any room, only one of which is the closet. Height can be an issue for a closet.
IS THERE A WARRANTY?
Yes, we offer a lifetime residential warranty. All our hardware is manufactured to exacting ISO 9002 specifications. We pride ourselves on excellence in both design and manufacture. The springs are a wearing part and not included in the warranty, like brakes on a car. Bed springs typically last 15 years before a re-frash is needed (when the bed is stowed after each use and not left down).
CAN I BUILD MY OWN MURPHY BED?
Yes! We offer our Elite kits (the only kits we use in our manufacturing) Single $939, Double $979 and our Queen kit is $1010.
HOW MUCH WOODWORKING EXPERIENCE DO I NEED TO BUILD MY OWN MURPHY BED?
Our detailed, step-by-step directions are easy to follow even if you have no woodworking experience. To make your job even easier, we recommend using one of our metal frame kits, which eliminate a lot of woodworking steps.
ARE YOU AFFILIATED WITH MURPHY BEDS OR WALL-BED DEALERS?
Not in Greater Victoria. Most are using an American hardware supplier that uses inferior quality hardware. Our hardware is a patented hardware that is engineered and manufactured to the highest quality, right here in Canada! Any Wall-Bed made with a wood frame around the mattress can only support 600 pounds of static weight if perfectly constructed, our Aluminum frames support 2200 pounds of static weight. Our lifetime hardware warranty comes backed from a company that has been in business for over 40 years in Vancouver. Compare for yourself.
HOW TO PLAN YOUR SPACE:
SELECT A WALL FOR YOUR MURPHY BED®:
Imagine walking into the room – if you can place the bed with the face (rather than the side) visible from the doorway, that’s ideal.
POSITION YOUR MURPHY BED®:
Positioning on the wall allowing for easy access to both sides of the bed. We suggest a minimum of 12 inches clearance to get around the bed – helpful when using the bed and making it up.
ALLOCATE REMAINING WALL SPACE TO OTHER USES:
Think about storage for guest use, or for your books, stereo, computer, arts and crafts etc. Pay particular attention to any corner – it’s an ideal spot for a computer desk system with wraparound shelving.
SIDE-TILT BEDS:
These unique beds are available for use in difficult locations where height and floor space are restricted (e.g. basements, attics or very narrow rooms).
I absolutely love this unit. It’s in a very small multi-purpose room used as an office, a sewing/craft room and guest bedroom. The unit provides versatility and good storage as well as looking good. We should have put it in 23 years ago when we moved into this house. I promote the Murphy Wall Bed, singing it’s praises at every opportunity.

Well thought through, good suggestions at the design level, constructed in a predicted schedule, installed carefully and quickly, and attention to detail and craftmanship is evident throughout. It’s appearance is both dramatic and subtle, interesting balance of colour, size and functionality. The bed works effortlessly and the quality of the mattress is excellent, we slept well on it that night. The office/desk fits my needs and with the speakers installed in the upper cabinets the sound is great. This unit has created a great visual and practical use of a bare concrete wall.
